Meet Jim

What is your role and when did you start volunteering?
ESOL Teacher E1 level; March 2020.

What City of Sanctuary project(s) do you support?
I teach one ESOL lesson per week; I try to get involved in anything else when I can, e.g. helping a couple of people with pre-test driving practice and joining in with football practice when possible.

What do you enjoy most about your work with CoS?
Working with a group from a wide range of countries; meeting great people among both students and CoS volunteers; helping them with an important skill; teaching!

How does the work you do and your project offer essential support for the asylum seeker and refugee community?
They need at least a basic level of English to be able to live comfortably, and very importantly, to be able to work once that is possible.
